Over a three year period, The Louisiana Resource Center for Educators (LRCE) Board of Directors and staff developed a plan for a Career Academy charter high school. This public charter school will provide students with the skills necessary to succeed in college and/or career upon graduation, providing local business and industry with qualified workers.
This unique public charter school will be a model for Louisiana providing a high school curriculum that blends core subjects with embedded principles from the work place. The goal of The Career Academy is to offer students a high quality relevant education. Students will gain the skills necessary for college and/or to obtain a career in one of the four career cluster areas offered by The Career Academy. These focus areas include: manufacturing; hospitality and tourism; health sciences; and transportation, distribution and logistics. This academy will use real world applications to strengthen the students' ability to transition from school to the work place.
The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board approved the application for the Career Academy Public Charter High School on May 20, 2010. The school will open its doors in August 2011 initially serving 9th and 10th grade students, growing every year until it serves students in 9th - 12th grades.
