- Potential participants submit an application to CS.
Applications for the summer 2012 cohort will be accepted from January 2 to March 16, 2012. No late applications will be accepted.
- Applications are pre-screened by the CS Staff.
- Potential participants who sucessfully complete the pre-screening process are invited for a face-to-face interview.
- Potential participants complete the face-to-face interview.
They will learn if they are accepted into the program within
three weeks of the face-to-face interview.
- Potential participants attend the Acceptance Meeting.
- Potential participants must have their passing scores for the PRAXIS I (or proof of exemption from the PRAXIS I) and II exams by April 15. They must also pay the $2,000 summer institute fee by the Acceptance Meeting. Otherwise, they will not be able to participate in the program.
- Participants attend training sessions on topics such as
classroom management and organization, developing lesson plans,
using technology in the classroom, and differentiated
instruction.
- Participants attend School Law, Reading in the Content Area,
and Special Education workshops.
- Participants observe and student teach at area
schools.
- Institute hours are approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m., Monday thru Friday.
- Participants teach full-time for 180 days on a Practitioner
License in one of CS's partnering school districts. They will
receive full-time salary and benefits while teaching.
- Participants attend bi-weekly, content-specific Learning
Team meetings.
- Participants receive guidance from CS-provided mentors,
called Practitioner Advisors, and the CS staff.
- Participants pass the Principles of Learning and Teaching or
Special Education components of the PRAXIS.
- Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education participants pass the Teaching Reading (0204) PRAXIS.
** Provided that all CS requirements are
met, participants may obtain their Level 1 certification after their
first year of teaching. If they do not meet all requirements, they
will be placed on a prescriptive plan. Certification can be obtained
in a maximum of three years.
