The LRCE Story

The Louisiana Resource Center for Educators (LRCE) was originally incorporated in 1987 as "Friends of the Environment" with the mission of supporting environmental education in K-12 schools. It became apparent that there was a need for a broad approach to support teachers in the continuing education arena. In 1998, the Department of Economic Development awarded Friends a grant to open the first shared resource center for teachers in Louisiana. The Board of Directors then changed the name from "Friends of the Environment" to "Louisiana Resource Center for Educators." Over the past 12 years LRCE has grown offering essential services to teachers, principals and home school families from all areas of the education community.

The LRCE is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit educational service agency reaching more than 55 parishes in Louisiana. It opened its doors with 5,000 educational resource items and has grown to more than 55,000 items available for teachers to use in their classrooms.

LRCE provides educational solutions in three areas: Support Solutions, Certification Solutions and Reform Solutions. LRCE offers multi-faceted programs and services for public, private, parochial, charter, home school sectors and families.
